Umpei Fude is a prestigious brand of traditional Japanese calligraphy brushes with a heritage spanning over 400 years. Originating in Kyoto during the Genna era (1615–1624) by Umpei Fujino, these brushes were favored by the Imperial Court and high-ranking officials.
Umpei Fude is currently produced by Hankeido, the only workshop continuing the traditional handcrafted maki fude techniques.
