Completed more than 40 years ago, the Sydney Opera House remains one of the world’s most iconic buildings, yet few souvenirs have truly captured its architectural significance. Following the development of a Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum model
In 1956, the State of New South Wales launched an international competition to design a National Opera House at Bennelong Point in Sydney, attracting more than 220 entries from 32 countries, with the winning design awarded to young Danish architect Jørn Utzon, whom architectural critic Sigfried Giedion praised for opening a new chapter in contemporary architecture. Completed in 1973, the Sydney Opera House is widely regarded as an architectural masterpiece and was added to the National Heritage List in 2005. In 2007, it was inscribed on the World Heritage List, with UNESCO recognizing it as a great architectural work of the 20th century and an iconic urban sculpture set within a remarkable waterscape.
Instructions included with the model are easy to follow stage by stage diagrams.
Glue is required but not supplied. Little Building Co. recommends a good quality PVA wood glue. There are a number to choose from and they typically dry clear, thats what you want. Some are specifically fast drying and the exterior grade normally dries faster than the exterior. The good thing about PVA is that you have time to reposition your parts if you mis-align them.
