The Neo Table Light celebrates handmade opal glass with a curvaceous bullnose shade swirled in Strawberry, Chocolate and Vanilla tones, glowing with warmth, colour and playful Neapolitan nostalgia.

Perched on a crisp white steel base with Buchanan Studio’s signature triangular motif, the Neo Table Light balances sculptural presence with everyday ease. The metal’s subtle texture softens the precise lines. Each shade emerges from our Oxfordshire oven own swirling pattern and delicate variations, a natural result of the hand-swirled glass that ensures no two lights are ever quite the same. A tilting mechanism lets you angle the shade – which is finished with a refined brass cap – inviting playful interaction and creating different moods on a desk, bedside table or sideboard.

Each Neotenic shade is shaped entirely by hand by our glassblowers in our Oxfordshire glassworks, and a lot of time went into perfecting its proportions and signature swirl. Once the raw batch is melted and gathered on a blowpipe as molten glass, the glassblower forms a bubble, coats it in opal glass and introduces colour using coloured frit before stretching and rolling the hot glass back on itself, creating marble-like ripples and veins.

A final gather is blown into a custom three-part graphite mould to achieve the bullnose form, then released, annealed slowly overnight, and cold worked by hand. The rim is cut, sanded, bevelled and polished, holes are drilled for fittings, and the shade is ready for assembly. Natural variations in the process make every piece one of a kind.

Original BTC’s lighting is retrospective and contemporary, industrial and intimate, and especially high quality. Founder Peter Bowles was born into a long history of British manufacturing and through the success of Original BTC, Bowles resuscitated a ceramics factory in Stoke-on-Trent, a metalwork factory in Birmingham, and a nautical outfitter at London Docks. All proudly British-made, hand-assembled in Oxford, and still family-run.
