Maison Tirot - Toy Boat - Le Bâchi
A beautifully made wooden toy boat, the perfect companion for bath time or to be admired on a shelf! Its shape is inspired by tuna boats, fishing boats of yesteryear with which our ancestors fished for… big fish!
This boat was handcrafted in Maison Triot’s Breton, France workshop using the same know-how, the same techniques, passed down from generation to generation since 1946. The Bachi toy boat is the perfect companion for your children’s bath time but it also sits nicely on a shelf for display. Made from solid wood sourced from Breton forests of France, this toy is built to withstand the enthusiasm of young sailors and last for years. Its shape is inspired by traditional tuna fishing boats, once used by Breton fishermen to catch… the big fish! In French maritime slang, a bachi is the headgear worn by sailors and quartermasters in the Navy. Made of blue wool cloth, it is topped with a red pompom in the French Navy. The 200 model – known as the Bachi – is a 16cm tuna boat. Made from beech wood, sourced from Breton forests, this boat is equipped with a Bermuda-type cotton sail. This boat was handcrafted in our Breton workshop using the same know-how, the same techniques, passed down from generation to generation since 1946. The Bâchi, like its larger counterparts the Sloop or Misainiers, is a bath toy. While well-designed for use in the water, without a keel or ballast they can capsize in the choppy waters of a child's bath. The captain's hand is then necessary to hold it upright during the bath. Fair winds, sailor!
