Poster Exhibit at 29 Church St

Masters of Graphic Design: Posters from a Private Collection

An exhibition of extremely rare, original posters from 1908 – 1988,  juxtaposed with iconic industrial design products of the 20th century. The exhibition is presented at the 29 Church design gallery, located inside the newly-restored, historic 1917 Telephone Exchange Building of New Milford.

These Museum-quality posters, selected from a private Connecticut collection which has never before been shown publicly, reveal the evolution of graphic design throughout the 20th century. This important collection rivals that of many Museums, and several of the works can also be found in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Cooper-Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, New York. The posters are shown with industrial design products of the same time period, underlining the tandem development of graphic art and industrial design in the 20th century.

Including work by Otto Baumberger (Switzerland), Francis Bernard (France), Emil Cardinaux (Switzerland), Ludwig Hohlwein (Germany), Charles Loupot (France), Burkhard Mangold (Switzerland), Makoto Nakamura (Japan), Giovanni Pintori (Italy), Koichi Sato (Japan), the Stenberg brothers (Russia), Niklaus Stoecklin (Switzerland), Ikko Tanaka (Japan), and Ryuichi Yamashiro (Japan).
