Tiger Swiss
Red Children's Shoes
Designer: Edi Glogg
Established: 1938
Brand: Tiger Swiss
If you were a child in Switzerland after 1938, there is a good chance you sported a pair of these with red pompoms while getting into mischief. It didn’t take long, but Edi Glogg’s innovative construction of these comfortable and distinctive shoes in natural and breathable materials gave Tigers nearly the same national notoriety as chocolate, cows and watches, except Tiger Swiss stayed well behind the border. These days, no one can quite remember why the shoes are named after an Asian jungle animal as they were never striped, but that doesn’t matter after 80 years of enduring popularity and recognition.
