Washi paper is a traditional Japanese paper that’s known for its strength, flexibility and thinness, when compared to ordinary paper made from wood pulp. Founded in 1946 in Echizen, Japan, Ryozo is a paper factory making washi paper so delicate that light shines through it. One of the founding principals of the company is to adapt to modern lifestyles, while preserving the tradition of their craft. In an effort to engage future generations in the craft, Ryozo hosts students and workshops at its facility to see and learn the traditional process of washi making.
